  1. 27:32, no errors. Difficult one, for me. Never-heard-ofs: MANDOPOP, CHIA EGG, TAME IMPALA, SMOG TEST (instead of “emissions test” or “emissions check”), PAC TEN, FINSTA, and “the Big E”. Crossing entries and educated guesses came to the rescue.

  2. 50 min, 2 errs

So many words unfamiliar to me but I really hit a brick wall at the corner of FINSTA and FAIRS. don’t know who a FINSTA is or that the Big E was an expo?
According Bill’s writeup, it sounds like a state fair? But the state expanded to ALL New England states so they could get enough people to attend. The Big E. Who knew.

I guess I’m “hitting up” and “lofting”????

After all the fancy words they could find for this crossword and they come up with LOFTING for HITTING UP?

And I don’t get IN PROFILE and SIDE ON.
I’m sure it’s probably in the dictionary.

    Still better than last saturday.

  3. 33 minutes, no errors.

The usual Saturday for me. Looks hopeless at first glance and then things start falling into place. New to me: FINSTA, CHIAEGG, and IMPALA.

The NE corner probably cost me 5 additional minues.

  4. So glad there are 5 guys who appreciate puzzles like this.
The rest of us just glance at them and toss them aside.

  5. 16 mins, 20 seconds and 4 errors (two squares that were so impenetrable I had to just go through the alphabet until I got the right one. A master class in “manufactured difficulty”. Asking for terms so specialized or so “newly coined” that no one should be expected to know them. Rafael Musa’s name appears on my “skip” list a few times, but back in 2023. But, I can never get a byline on my online puzzles before I solve them, so had no chance to avoid it.

  6. No look ups,no errors. Started off pretty easy but then I hit a wall. Put it down for
a while and the fog lifted. Regarding 5D
those 2 words in one answer always throw
    me. Happy Holidays everyone!
