  1. 11 min, no errs

Had to stare at MARAINEY for awhile trying to see “the BELL”. then MA BELL finally hit me.

  2. Also stuck at MARAINEY. And since I don’t know a thing about Bunco, I had Deck instead of DICE. That took more that a second to figure out!!!

  3. 10:22, no mistakes. Didn’t pay any attention to the theme. At first I put in I rock instead of I rule, so that took some undoing.

  4. 10:24, no errors. Like some others the SE corner was a slog. Even after reading Bill’s explanation it took me a bit to remember the old days of AT&T owning the phone inside your home.

  5. 8:39 – no errors or lookups. False start: ALOT>GLUT.

    New or forgotten: PED.

Saw the theme early with DUMB and OPENING. It helped a little, but not for solving 51A. Was it going to to be MARY? MARA? I didn’t “get it” until I had 51A all filled in; then I could see MA as in “Ma Bell.”

    Related cluing with wide|narrow “flat-topped hill[s].”

  6. 6 mins 14 sec, and a few typeovers. That inelegantly-phrased clue, “Bunco trio” furrowed the brow quite a bit.

  7. Tomorrow’s (i.e., Wednesday’s) Wall Street Journal crossword is a remarkable thing. I don’t want to ruin anyone’s fun, so I won’t explain why, but it’s definitely worth a look (as long as you appreciate virtuoso displays of cruciverbalism … 😜).

  8. Fun, tricky Tuesday for me; took 9:43 with no peeks or errors. Didn’t get the banner at the end and had to hunt down PaT UP/aMBER, which fortunately came almost right away. Also had TOO tight/TO SMALL. No idea on GNC and DICE.

Didn’t get around to figuring out the theme until I got here.

I’ve been told by by my former neighbors that “SACRE BLEU” is definitely depreciated, no one uses it anymore. A modern equivalent is “Zut Alors!”

@Dave – Thanks for the tip, I’ll be doing it tomorrow.
