The effect has been touted as a theory for decades but dramatic empirical data became available in the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. 1. 14 min, no errors

A holiday twist. Yay for Patti! Finally.

Even though the themed answers were a bit quirky, I liked it. I’ll try find a way to use them on my wife today.

    Happy Valentines Day!

  2. Got all but 2 letters and didn’t understand the logic on a lot of the answers.
But, whatever it takes to be a Friday puzzle….

  3. Theme was helpful again. Didnt know 11D but the crosses helped. One lookup. Not bad for a Friday.
I don’t recall eating cilantro in anything, but I probably did as I lived in CA for a while and ate lots of Mexican and some Thai food. I must not have the SOAPY gene!
    Happy Valentine’s Day 💕

  4. 15 minutes, no errors. A good Friday challenge.

Had trouble initially with BARGAIN BINS, but that long down answer finally came through and helped me with the across answers.

    Fun theme.

  5. 8:43 – no errors or lookups. False starts: BHAT>BAHT, AKIRO>AKIRA, PAU>PAO.

New or forgotten: NATE Corddry, “Blitzkrieg Bop,” Kung PAO Tofu. Soapy cilantro taste? Not to me.

The theme meal seems like Slavic cuisine, and not only because of the borscht. It would be good, but not my first choice. I didn’t pick up that the first word of each answer was also a pet name for one’s date. Kind of clever.

I have that Herb Alpert album, “Whipped Cream and Other Delights,” and still enjoy listening to it, along with a “Greatest Hits” album of his.

  6. No errors…had to refer to my “previous puzzle notes” to get the first letter of 22D as I had no idea what 21A was.
    Stay safe😀
    Play ball⚾️
    Happy Valentine’s Day❤️

  7. Mostly easy Friday for me; took 19:51 with 1 peek and 2 errors. Got everything fairly easily, except the NW corner where I couldn’t figure out TVS. Put in pApER instead of VAPOR and got my 2 errors. Immediately figured it all out right after that…sigh! TVS!

No idea on NATE, SOAPY and ERNIE (only vaguely).

Cute theme that helped. Happy Valentines Day!!

  8. As a corollary to my comments on Wednesday’s puzzle, and the ubiquitous misuse and overuse of acronyms instead of words, we now have RPG as the solution to 3 down: WoW or D&D ??

Role playing game? Really! I always thought an RPG was a rocket-propelled grenade, which might be usefully employed to rid us of these superfluous acronyms.

  9. 9:05, no errors. I was helped by remembering the Blitzkrieg Bop lyrics. I also learned with the past couple of weeks of those poor souls with the SOAPY switch.
